The Samaresh Basu Digital Archive has been put together by consolidatiing available archival documents on the author, almost entirely from the private collection of his family members and some close associates. The digital archive and the website has been designed as a point of reference for literary enthusiasts, young readers, translators, as well as a take-off resource point for academic researchers.
The metadata catalogue of the collection, section or sub-section, or individual items (any digital file) will be made available for academic purposes. Researchers are encouraged to get in touch through the contact details provided.
The Samaresh Basu Digital Archive is a work in progress, open to receiving archival contributions on Samaresh Basu’s life and literature, gradually preserving and expanding the digital repository.
The archive has until now collected and digitally preserved a significant share of photographs, letters, manuscripts, notes and book-covers pertaining to his oeuvre, as well as records from his personal and social life. The digital documentation has been done with personal funds, as this archive is and will continue to be a not-for-profit entity. The website offers a selective view of the larger archival collection, keeping in mind copyright clauses of intellectual property rights. The archive intends to be a growing repository, surveying, catalouging and digitally preserving records on Samaresh Basu. The Samaresh Basu Digital Archive project was conceived in 2023, with the intent to preserve the family collection of Samaresh Basu’s photographs, letters, manuscripts, and notes. The initial primary collection, therefore, came from a part of Samaresh Basu’s family. In the following phase of the project, the archival team reached out to other close associates of the author who contributed significantly to the archive. This section provides a brief introduction of the contributors.
This archive is for academic and educational purposes only. The Samaresh Basu Digital Archive will not engage in commercial projects. All archival material has been digitised and selectively published on the Samaresh Basu Digital Archive website with the permission of the individual contributors and with approval of the author’s family. All the digitised files used on the website and in the archive are under copyright and therefore are for viweing and academic purposes only. No one is permitted to download, copy, reuse, distribute any of the digitised copy or part of the copy in any form or manner known or yet to be known for any purpose without prior permission from the copyright holder.
Copyright of the material will remain with the original holders of the copyright, and does not devolve to the Samaresh Basu Digital Archive, which only serves as custodian of the digital files.
